VIRTUAL TOUR: Take a look into the Iron Age settlement – the Araisi Lake Fortress

Araisi Ezerpils Archaeological Park (Āraišu arheoloģiskais parks) is a place where it is possible to get to know the history from the Stone Age to the end of the Middle Ages. It is located in the beautiful area – connected in a short distance with Araisi Evangelical Lutheran Church, Araisi Windmill and the Drabesi Manor. The Virtual Tour of the park this time will take the place at the main object in the park – the Araisi Lake Fortress – unique settlements of ancient Latgallians dated to 8/9th–10th century. The type of settlement is unusual and so are the results of excavation. It provided quite a full picture of Latgallian material culture during that time, and partially also of their mental culture, and the idea was born of recreating the lake fortress as an open-air archaeological park.

Join us on the virtual tour! The museum educator Sanda will show you around the site wearing a reconstructed costume and showing replicas of objects and tools that were a part of the Latgallian day-to-day life.
